Welcome to our new look! Although our site has changed, we want to assure you we are still the same solid coalition working toward alcohol and substance abuse prevention.

Our Mission

FHE ASAP’s mission is to reduce substance abuse in Florida’s college-student population by coordinating the prevention efforts of colleges and universities throughout the state. The coalition also intends to advocate for stronger prevention policies, help to organize campus community partnerships, and help members of the coalition develop science-based prevention programs.

Our Vision

The lead organization to drive policy, leadership, scholarship and research in the area of substance abuse intervention and prevention in Florida Institutions of Higher Education.

Grade the Prevention Ad!

Having students assess the ads helps us evaluate the messages as well as providing students with an intervention. Having students grade the ads is much better than having them passively observing the ads. They start to think about how to decrease excessive drinking.

Bobby’s TRUE Seminole Tailgate

Florida State University implements a comprehensive set of strategies to reduce high risk alcohol use as part of its Healthy Campus 2010 initiative, including alcohol free tailgating at home football games.   Named after head football coach Bobby Bowden, “Bobby’s TRUE Seminole Tailgate” was born.

In partnership with the TRUE (Tradition, Respect, Unity,  Excellence) Seminole Campaign initiated by the Student Seminole Boosters and the Student Government Association, this initiative had the support of top level  administrators and student leaders.  We were able to engage student volunteers to work at and support the five tailgates.

Tailgate starts 2 ½ hours before the game and lasts two hours. During that time, the activities included a DJ, Game and a life-size cardboard standup cut out of Bobby Bowden and fans had their pictures taken with “Bobby”.

Cost:  $21,400 total for 5 tailgates.  Food cost $15,400.  Served on average 500-700 people per game.
